Presentation Synopsis

During the presentation, we will explore the current Safety Standards, how compliance works and how this all helps ensure the eye health and safety for all customers and not only industrial customers. There is a great deal of confusion around Safety Eyewear when it comes to the many various standards around the world, and what may be presenting themselves into practice today. We will also explore how manufacturers get their compliance to the standards and the way to recognise that what you are receiving is not only a compliant product, but also one that is certified with a reputable agency. We will also ask the question; why offer safety and who could benefit from safety eyewear and where do most eye injuries occur?

Presenter Bio

Starting in the optical industry in 1990, George gained a qualification as an Ophthalmic Optical Mechanic after a 2 year apprenticeship and later also qualified as an Optical Dispenser. He emigrated to Australia in 2001 and worked at OPSM's laboratory in Sydney and went on to manage the production and coating of lenses. George's safety career started with Hoya lens in 2017, where he oversaw the wholesale safety division for Hoya and is now managing their retail division, which has allowed him to observe safety eyewear from both a supplier/vendor and retailer point of view. George currently stands as a member on the Standards committee and has been doing so for the past 10 or so years.
